Our family loves the Switched On Schoolhouse Computer Curriculum. The kids love it because it makes learning fun. I love it because it makes teaching easy. For two years my kids were enrolled in the AOP Online Academy, which takes Switched On Schoolhouse one step further. By having certified teachers available by phone or email, it made the transition to junior high academics less stressful for all of us.

If you have the time and the passion, I highly recommend that you check out the Weaver Unit Study curriculum. This is the product that I would choose if the Lord hadn’t asked me to write books and speak on the weekends. The Weaver approach takes a lot of commitment and conviction but it provides, in my opinion, all of the best things that homeschooling has to offer. The emphasis on character-building stemming from Scripture, the focus on the joy of learning, and the opportunity to incorporate multiple learning styles produces life-long comprehension vs mere memorization of facts for a test.

Of course, the LifePacs are the heart and soul of AOP. These “packets” of learning are ideal for today’s fast-pace. Because they are self-contained units of study, the student can learn independently, building self-discipline and study skills. Mom can oversee with confidence knowing that, upon completion, there is no question as to whether they are up to grade level in all subjects.
